Austrian media official guest of honour at Nazi bash

Filed under: Global news, Ethics, Journalism — Hans Henrik Lichtenberg @ 12:01 pm

One of the highest officials of Austria’s public radio and TV broadcasting corporation, ORF, Walter Seledec, attended a Nazi commemoration as guest of honour, Die Presse newspaper reported Monday. The report said that Sunday’s ceremony was organised by the youth organisation of the right-wing Freedom Party. The ceremony took place at Vienna Central Cemetery, where a wreath was placed at the grave of World War II fighter pilot Major Walter Nowotny on the 61st anniversary of his death. A month ago, Seledec was criticised within ORF for having signed a memorial announcement for former FP chief Friedrich Peter, who was a member of a Nazi SS brigade during the Second World War.
