FATWA: Price on the heads of the men who drew Mohammed

The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned Danish travellers to Pakistan of increased hazard, after a Danish newspaper’s decision to publish cartoons of Muslim prophet Mohammed escalated into a bounty being placed on the heads of the cartoonists. Daily newspaper Jyllands-Posten published twelve cartoon drawings of Mohammed in September, sparking angry reactions from Denmark’s Muslim population and a number of Muslim countries. A bounty of DKK 50,000 (EUR 6,713) had been put on the head the cartoonist responsible for the drawings, daily newspaper Berlingske Tidende reported on Friday.

The Pakistani group offering the reward mistakenly believes that the 12 cartoons were created by just one person

Jyllands-Posten had no comment about the bounty placed on the cartoonists’ heads. Danish authorities immediately informed the Pakistani government about the death threats and the bounty promised by the party, which is described as nationalistic and fundamentalist. Ever since the demonstrators marched through the streets of Islamabad, the party has been spreading its message through the media and flyers. (The Copenhagen Post,December 13, 2005)

  1. hello…
we need an immediate apologize from this newspaper
and never to come to such insult to islam

  2. The term Bid’ah means the religion allows no changes in how the world of islam functions. most people think that if islam just does this or adjusts to modern thinking it will be better but that is not allowed so there is actually no hope for change in anything the religion calls for.

  3. But it is only a joke¡¡ I don´t understand why people is so angry. Perhaps they aren´t very polite, but that is not reason for so much anger.

  4. The death penalty seems a bit harsh for drawing cartoons. Instead of chopping off their heads, why not chop off there hands instead?

    Comment by Sarcast — December 30, 2005 @ 12:47 am

  5. This particular Pakistani party deserves to be described as “Nationalistic” and “Fundamentalist”. That’s what these suckers are, far from mainstream Arab media.

Jyllandsport on the other hand is mainstream media. They should make an apology over at least two of the cartoons that depict Mohammed with sabres in his hands, and the one with the bomb in his turban.

    Comment by rams — December 30, 2005 @ 11:27 am

  6. Should’ve been Jyllands-Posten, sorry. there should be a possibility to preview before posting.

    Comment by rams — December 30, 2005 @ 11:29 am

  7. Does anyone else see the Irony? Muslims respond to their portrayal as violent extremists by issuing death threats?

    Comment by ModernEsther — January 3, 2006 @ 4:45 pm

  8. Furthermore, there is absolutely nothing inaccurate about portraying Mohammed with a sword. The Koran describes (on several occassions) his violent exploits in battle.

    Comment by ModernEsther — January 3, 2006 @ 4:46 pm

  9. Methinks the protests are coming a little too fast and furious. Obviously a sore spot was exacerbated! Keep those cartoons coming. If we can lampoon our own president without death threats, everybody is fair game!

  10. concerning the muslims - the fact and the problem is that they are 586 years behind our time… that explains the problems.

    Comment by lisbeth pedersen — January 8, 2006 @ 2:37 pm

  11. Muslims can solve the problem by not looking at the cartoons. George W. Bush doesn’t look at his, or care what they say about him. He’s smart.

  13. I noticed over the last few years the growth of racism in Danish society. This ISLAMOPHOBIA is certainly the result of ignorance and the thought that it’s fair game to insult Muslims as there is no laws to protect them as a minority. The editor wouldn’t have dared do the same caricatures about Jews for example! Racists are usually cowards too, they only take on the weak not the strong.

  15. Being smart Ruth Morse is not by ignoring basic matters in ur life , apparantly u don`t know the meaning of ” religion ” & u will accept anything bad about Jesus Christ Which we as Muslims won`t accept about The Christ or Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon them ). Try to know Islam before u blindly judge it , & this is IGNORANCE .

  16. Any “god” that can’t handle criticism isn’t worth believing in.

And any “god” that needs followers to do its dirty work instead of doing such work itself is weak and feeble.

Tell me: Are “Allah” and “Yahweh” too castrated to kill their opponents themselves and need weak willed terrorists to do the strongarm killing? Or are the weak willed terrorists just a bunch of fools who can’t deal with reality?

  17. Allah is the only one God, their God and our God is Allah. We believe in all religions from the sky; from Allah, and we embraced the last religion from Allah which is Islam.

The prophet Mohammad and all the prophets of Allah (peace be upon them all); are most respectful human being ever created, especially the last messenger: prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him); he is the best human being ever created, we don’t accept any stupidity from anyone, and may Allah give those people what they deserve.

Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) did NOT allow killing innocent people even in wars.

Those stupid human being (terrorists and stupid artists) I pray for them to be guided to the truth, and if the don’t follow the guidance then they deserve what the get from Allah.

  18. I don’t see what the big deal is. So they drew the mohammed. So? They draw Jesus Christ and the Virgin all the time. Jesus is the Son of God!!! So if they can have a musical Jesus Christ Superstar, they can draw pictures of a man who live 700 yrs ago. May God bless everyone

    Comment by AP — January 16, 2006 @ 1:54 am

  19. 24. My advise to the Denmark is to dedicate their newsletter and media to put the real story of our Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) by one of the famous muslims such as Shk. Hamza Yousif. it could make a difference when they introduce the real picture of the Prophet Moahmmed (PBUH).
Please convey my message to the concerned.

  25. The main issue is, Islam does not accept freedom of speech or expression. The world must conform to Islam or else somebody is going to get killed. That is the message that people should realize.

And regarding the boycott. The western world should respond by dropping all kind of monetary relief to muslim countries. If they dont respect our way of living, we should not bow to their needs.

    Comment by The issue — January 29, 2006 @ 1:16 am

  26. It rather sad really. The newspaper people can’t understand what they’ve done because they don’t understand the religion they have offended. Rather than try to understand they have hidden behind freedom of speech. No doubt When some one says or does something equally offensive to their own religion or values. They will be equally worked up.Bottomline really is treat all with respect and dignity and more often than not you will get it back.

  27. Good press has a responsibility to be objective and fair. This representation of the prophet is not indicative of the truth. Anyone with the least knowledge of Islam would know that. The problem today is the misrepresentation of the prophet and these cartoons only feed to that phenomenon.

  29. I was disgusted to see the cartoon about Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). I guess the newspaper wants to make free publicity for itself. We will boycott all Danish products and we will show them who can make a difference in world trade.

    Comment by Hiba — January 30, 2006 @ 10:57 am

  30. I think denmark must be ashamed of it self America and all other countries wants to stop teroresiom and this won’t help it would make more lose than benefiting so denemark must be ready for the difference in the world trade.

    Comment by R.T — January 30, 2006 @ 6:18 pm

  31. you dont know how it is to live in denmark, im 15 years old and i already understand that we have freedom of expression so we can say what we want to say and its NOT on any way political incorrect to draw a paint of Muhammed. Denmark must NOT on any way apologize, and if they dont understand it they can draw paint of jesus christ or something else, in Denmark we dont start to burn your flag or something else like that or boycott your “countrys” products. All paints are not made to offend people but to make a debate, and why sould we apologys because, what is wrong to paint a religion paint? if one in the world can tell me the deffrend of draw jesus or muhammed i will be happy… and i can say one thing, if i want to draw Muhammed i draw him, no one can say to me in my country that its illegal, and thats the good thing about Denmark, all can say there opinion no matter if its against someone!!!

    Comment by akeksander — January 30, 2006 @ 7:58 pm

  32. I am french and i think that it was a sort of provocation against musulims in the world and the desicion of boycotting danish products is understandable.its only muslims who are humiliated and insulted.what a shame for an “democratic country”!!

    Comment by latifa — January 31, 2006 @ 9:18 am

  33. akeksander! can i ask you how many democracies you can count in the Muslim world? hmmm, funny but i personaly cannot name any. I live in Europe where religion and state are disctinct; i believe in social progress and tolerates any religion (was born catholic) but do not come and tell me that islam is such a superior faith to all others that i cannot be named or fooled around! I want more of those drawings, i want debate and freedom of expression and i certainly do not want to go backwards in time just to please a ridiculous mionrity of people who think those drawings deserve an apology! If you’re not happy with the way we see freedom here, go and check in the arab world and give me some feedback, after all you are always welcome to go and live there, where they burn books and only think of fear, revenge and sin…give me a break, this is 2006 and not the 6th Century. grow up.
